So, you just purchased a boat or are looking at getting one within the next few months. The big question is, where will you be taking your boat? Do you plan to take the kids out every time? Do you want to experience water sports to its fullest? Knowing where to take your boat is a big question to answer before owning one. Certain lakes have size limitations, which can be crucial in your decision-making. You will find a compiled list of local lakes throughout the southeast that explore all they offer. We are happy to call this page our ‘Lake Local’ list.
Lay Lake
Our first lake to touch on in our Lake Local guide is Lay Lake. You can find Lay Lake in Wilsonville, AL. It is about 35 miles south of Birmingham off I-65 and 20 minutes south of Columbia. Over 12,000 acres surround this beautiful area, and over 400 miles of shoreline ensure you have plenty of water to explore. Whether you are boating or not, Lay Lake has a variety of activities, such as fishing, boat launches, restaurants, and more.
Paradise Point Marina
Referred to as the hub of Lay Lake, Paradise Point Marina is a popular area for launching boats, grabbing a bite to eat, and hanging out by the water. The Marina is an excellent spot to bring friends and family to have a bite to eat before spending a day on the water. If you are into fish tacos or a simple cheeseburger, Paradise Point Marina will satisfy those cravings and make you never want to try them anywhere else again. Remember that this is the only walk-in restaurant on the lake.
4-H Center
The 4-H Center is a great place for companies to host conferences or for friends to have events. It can comfortably accommodate more than 285 people at a time. If you plan to host an event, you will be delighted to know that the 4-H Center offers a full-service meal plan or break catering for all occasions. The best part is that you will not break the bank when booking the 4-H Center and the view of Lay Lake are incredible.
Oak Island Mansion
Our next stop on our boating Lay Lake guide is Oak Island Mansion. The mansion is on a private island outside Birmingham, Alabama. Designed for the southern romantics who desire the charm of the south, you will have this venue to yourself with the lake as your backdrop. Inside, you will find a grand staircase perfect for getting ready and taking pictures of your bridal party. Outside the venue, you will find the pool and beautiful nature prepared to be a part of your big day.
